Tim Head: How it is is the catalogue of an exhibition at Wolfson College, Cambridge in 2023-24. Most of the works chosen and discussed by curator Phillip Lindley are selected from the nearly seventy works by Head which were acquired by collector Thomas Frangenberg, and subsequently donated to Wolfson after Frangenberg’s death. This was undoubtedly the most important collection of Head’s works in private ownership, and was very rich work from the first half of Head’s career – the period up to 1992. The author was able to have extensive discussions with the artist about his practice, and his recollections of these early works: and the catalogue is an important contribution to the published literature on Head and his contribution to British Art both from within, and commenting on, Conceptual and Pop.
